According to Howard Balzer, the Chargers brought in four free agents for workouts on Wednesday including DE Kony Ealy.
The full list of tryouts for the Chargers includes:
- DE Kony Ealy
- DT Xavier Cooper
- DE Anthony Lanier
- LB Ufoma Kamalu
The Chargers are currently without DE Joey Bosa, who is dealing with a foot injury, so it appears as though they could add some pass rush help for the time being.
Ealy, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.546 million contract that included $1.249 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $803,660 for the 2017 season.
The Panthers traded Ealy and a 2017 third-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for a second-round pick back in March. However, it didn’t work out for Ealy in New England and he was waived coming out of the preseason.
The Jets later claimed him off of waivers and heย finished out the year in New York. The Cowboys signed him to a one-year contract back in April, but he was released coming out of the preseason.
In 2017, Ealy appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 14 tackles, one sack, an interception and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 61 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
