Chargers Release ILB Donald Butler

Chargers ILB Donald Butler said goodbye to fans on Twitter Thursday, implying that he’s been released from his contract.

Butler, 27, was entering the third year of his seven-year, $51.8 million contract that included an $11.15 million signing bonus. He was set to make a base salary of $4.65 million in 2016.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $2,590,000 in available cap space while creating $6,690,000 in dead money.

In 2015, Butler appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and recorded 43 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and a recovery.
