Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Chiefs rookie RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain and a strained hip during Sunday’s win over the Saints.

According to Schefter, Edwards-Helaire is expected to miss the rest of the regular season with these injuries. However, the good news is that Kansas City hopes he can return at some point during the postseason.

Edwards-Helaire suffered what appeared to be a very serious injury. He was helped off the field, but it sounds like it’s not as bad of injury as it appeared.

Edwards-Helaire, 21, started for one year at LSU where he led the team in rushing. He also earned first-team All-SEC honors and led the conference in rushing touchdowns before being selected by the Chiefs with the No. 32 overall pick.

Edwards-Helaire signed a four-year, $10,821,572 rookie contract that includes a $5,430,234  signing bonus. The contract includes a fifth-year for the Chiefs to pick up for the 2024 season.

In 2020, Edwards-Helaire has appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 882 yards on 195 carries to go along with 37 receptions for 301 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.
