Detroit Lions DE Cliff Avril mentioned that he’s optimistic that “things will work themselves out” when asked to discuss the status of the ongoing contract negotiations with the team, via theย Detroit Free Press.
The Lions franchised Avril back in March, but he’s yet to sign his franchise tender ofย $10.6 million. Certainly, this comes as little surprise, considering that he’s been pushing for a long-term deal for a good while now.
Lions presidentย Tom Lewand recently said that “the ball’s in his court,” to which Avril responded; “It’s up to Tom.”
Detroit will have untilย July 16 to negotiate a long-term extension with the defensive end. After that, Avril will either play the 2012 season forย $10.6 million or holdout.
