Colts Sign OLB Victor Butler, Waive OLB Chris Carter

The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday morning that they have signed veteran OLB Victor Butler to their active roster and waived OLB Chris Carter to make room for him.

Butler, 27, signed a contract with the Cardinals two weeks ago, but was released just a few days ago. The Colts brought him in for a workout just a few days, so this isn’t a huge surprise.

The Saints signed Butler to a two-year, $3 million contract that included $1.5 million guaranteed last season, but was unfortunately among the Saints’ final roster cuts a few weeks ago as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.

Butler tore his ACL during offseason workouts last year and subsequently missed the entire 2013 season.

Carter, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2011. He had played just two defensive snaps for the Colts all season before being waived.

Over the last four years, Carter has appeared in 30 games and recorded eight tackles , one fumble recovery and nine special teams stops.
