Colts Sign RB Branden Oliver & WR Matt Hazel, Place WR Deon Cain On IR

The Indianapolis Colts announces that they have signed RB Branden Oliver and WR Matt Hazel to their preseason roster, waived WR Dres Anderson and placed sixth-round WR Deon Cain on injured reserve.

Oliver, 27, originally signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Buffalo back in 2014. He has spent his entire career with the Chargers but missed the 2016 season due to an injury.

The Chargers declined to tender Oliver a restricted offer last year before re-signing him a few weeks later.

The Bills brought him in for a workout last month but did not offer him a contract.

In 2017, Oliver appeared in eight games for the Chargers and ran for 83 yards on 35 carries (2.4 YPC) to go along with six receptions for 26 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Cain sustained a season-ending knee injury during the Colts’ preseason game against the Seahawks. He has been a standout receiver for them this summer, so his injury comes as a big disappointment.

Cain, 22, was selected by the Colts in the sixth round of this year’s NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $2,625,636 contract with the Colts and stands to make base salaries of $480,000 and $570,000 over the first two years of the contract.

During his college career at Clemson, Cain caught 130 passes for 2,040 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns over the course of three seasons and 40 games.
