Cowboys “Optimistic” About Signing Dak Prescott To Extension During Training Camp

Jane Slater of NFL Media, citing a source informed of the negotiations, reports that the Cowboys are “optimistic” that they will be able to get an extension in place for QB Dak Prescott at some point during training camp.

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram previously reports that Prescott’s agent, Todd France, has “broached a deal in the range of $34 million annually.

Hill added that France’s job is to “ask for the moon with hopes of landing on the stars”, which likely explains why their early target is so high.

The Eagles signed Carson Wentz to an extension that will pay him an average salary of $32 million a few months ago. Some have since speculated that Prescott could end up around $30 million, but it sounds like they have their sights set even higher for now.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones previously said that the team won’t balk on signing Prescott to a long-term deal and they clearly want to get a deal done.

โ€œWeโ€™re sold on Dak, and we do want to have him for the long term,โ€ Jones said via Pro Football Talk. โ€œWe think heโ€™s worthy of investing in for the long term. . . .We see real upside in Dak. You donโ€™t have it all yet.โ€

Prescott, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and set to make a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Prescott appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 3,885 yards to go along with 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 305 yards and six touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Prescott and the Cowboys as the news is available.
