Cowboys Release DE Michael Sam From Practice Squad, Add LB Troy Davis

The Dallas Cowboys have announced that the release of DE Michael Sam from their practice squad on Tuesday.

  • The Cowboys signed LB Troy Davis and DT Ken Bishop to their practice squad.

Sam, 24, was taken in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams, but he was unfortunately unable to make the final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason.

He found limited interest as teams began filling out their practice squads, so we’ll have to see if anyone signs him in the coming weeks.

Sam recorded three sacks during the preseason, and said that he’s confident he can play in the NFL. During his four years at Missouri, Sam recorded 111 tackles, 32.5 sacks, two interceptions, and five forced fumbles.

  1. understand that Rev Al is leading a LGBT rally in Dallas to protest Sam’s inability to live up to all the press coverage he received…..

  2. You can’t say the first openly gay player didn’t get the opportunity but of course I’m sure there will still be people claiming it was because he is in fact . . . gay.

He did open the door a little wider for future gay players. I will commend him for that. I hope the media doesn’t make it such a big deal the next time.
