Cowboys Waive K Brett Maher, Sign K Kai Forbath

The Cowboys announced on Monday they have waived K Brett Maher and signed K Kai Forbath to replace him.

Maher has struggled at times for the Cowboys this season and has finally been replaced after Dallas has conducted multiple workouts looking for a replacement.

Maher, 30, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent of Nebraska back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in New York before he waived and later signed by the Cowboys during the preseason.

Unfortunately, Dallas cut Maher loose just a few weeks later as they cut their roster down to the 75-man limit. Maher spent three years in the CFL before signing a one-year deal with the Browns in 2017. However, Cleveland elected to move on from Maher shortly after the draft that year.

Maher signed with the Cowboys during the 2018 offseason and won a competition to become the starting kicker.

In 2019, Maher appeared in 13 games for the Cowboys and made 20-30 field goal attempts (66.7 percent) as well as all 36 of his extra point attempts.

Forbath, 32, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. Forbath had brief stints with the Buccaneers, Redskins, Saints and Vikings before signing on with the Jaguars last December.

Jacksonville released Forbath back in February and he just recently signed on with the Patriots. New England waived him last week.

In 2019, Forbath has appeared in one game and converted one field goal attempt and one of two extra point tries.
