According to James Palmer, Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins has passed his physical for Arizona.
That means the trade sending Hopkins to the Cardinals from the Texans in exchange for RB David Johnson and a second-round pick should be finalized soon.
This doesn’t come as a big surprise but it does help ensure that the controversial trade sending Hopkins out of Houston won’t be revoked on a technicality, which had a non-zero chance given the difficulties of obtaining a physical in the current shutdown climate.
The two sides also plan to open extension talks at some point. Hopkins is reportedly seeking a raise with three years still remaining on his contract which is part of the reason Houston elected to trade him.
Hopkins, 27, was taken with the No. 27 overall pick back in 2013. He’s currently entering the third year of his five-year, $81 million extension that includes $49 million guaranteed.
In 2019, Hopkins appeared in 15 games for the Texans and caught 104 passes for 1,165 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 18 yards.
We’ll have more on Hopkins as the news is available.
