Dolphins Officially Releasing TE Julius Thomas

Jordan Schultz reports that the Dolphins are officially releasing TE Julius Thomas on Wednesday, as expected.

Thomas, 29, is a former fourth-round pick by the Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft. He is in the third year of his five-year, $46 million contract that included $24 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2018 season.

The Jaguars elected to trade Thomas to the Dolphins in return for a 2017 seventh-round pick.

In 2017, Thomas appeared in 14 games for the Dolphins and caught 41 passes for 388 yards receiving and three touchdowns. ProFootballFocus has him rated as the No. 50 overall tight end out of 71 qualifying players.
