Dolphins Signing Former Texans QB T.J. Yates

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins are signing former Texans QB T.J. Yates to a contract on Tuesday.

Yates has confirmed the news via his Twitter account:

This comes after the Dolphins learned that starting QB Ryan Tannehill suffered ACL and MCL sprains during Sunday’s win over the Cardinals.

Yates will backup veteran QB Matt Moore, who will be the team’s starter until Tannehill is healthy enough to return.

Yates, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Texans back in 2011. He spent three years in Houston before he was traded to the Falcons for Akeem Dent. The Falcons later brought him back on a one-year contract before cutting him loose at the start of the 2015 season.

The Texans signed him to their roster in October and he finished out the year in Houston.

In 2015, Yates appeared in four games and threw for 370 yards while completing 49.1 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and an interception.
