Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have kept in close contact with free agentย Jason Jonesย in recent weeks, and the veteran defensive end remains on Miami’s radar.
Last we heard regarding Jones,ย David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reported thatย he wasย believed to be closing in on an agreement with the Dolphins.
Jones has previously met withย Steelersย and Cowboysย since free agency opened over a month ago before taking a second visit to the Dolphinsย a fewย weeks ago.
There was talk that the Cowboys could turn their attention to signing Jones after the news that Demarcus Lawrence is facing a four-game suspension, but the team said that he’s no longer being considered at this time.
Jones, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2008. He played out his rookie contract with Tennessee and signed a free agent deal with the Seahawks. However, he spent just a year in Seattle before signing with the Lions the following year.
Jones is currently among the best available defensive linemen in the free agent market.
In 2015, Jones appeared in 15 games for the Lions and recorded 31 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 43 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.
We haveย him featuredย in ourย Best Available Free Agents list.
