Saints QB Drew Brees told reporters on Wednesday that he’s planning to return in Week 8’s game, depending on things go in practice this week.
“That’s the plan, we’ll see,” Brees said, per Sean Fazende.
This comes shortly after Saints HC Sean Payton said Brees could be “a game-time decision” this weekend.
Brees underwent thumb surgery after he suffered the injury during Week 2’s game against the Rams. Teddy Bridgewater has done a great job of filling in for Brees, so if there are any concerns at all about how his thumb will hold up, you can expect New Orleans to hold him at least another week.
Brees, 40, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2001. After five years with the Chargers, Brees signed on with the Saints as a free agent in 2006.
Brees has spent the past 12 seasons in New Orleans and is entering the final year of his two-year, $50 million contract that includes $27 million guaranteed.
Before he was injured, Brees had appeared in one game and completed 74.4 percent of his passes for 370 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
We’ll have more regarding Brees as the news is available.
