Update:
Adam Schefter and Field Yatesย are reporting thatย Eagles DT Timmy Jernigan is expected to be out four-to-six months after he underwent surgery on a herniated disc in his back last week.
It’s still possible Jernigan could be ready for the start of the season, but if he ends up needing more time, there’s a chance he could open the season on the PUP list.
Field Yates reports that theย Eagles and Jernigan agreed to a reworked contract that converted the final three years of his contract to option years with no guaranteed money. The Eagles will be able toย evaluate his health as part of the decision moving forward.
According to the report, Jernigan’s injury could have ended Jernigan’s time in Philadelphia, as the Eagles could have declined to pay him the remaining money in his contract after he suffered the injury during an offseason workout in March. However, this reworked contract will pay him $3 million guaranteed this season, but the team is longer liable for the $11 million guaranteed that was due next season.

Jernigan was in the final year of his four-year, $4.382 million contractย that included $2.126 million guaranteed when the Eagles signed him to aย four-year extension, $48 million extension that includes $26 million fully guaranteed last year.
In 2017, Jernigan appeared in 15 games for the Eagles and recorded 29 tackles and 2.5 sacks.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 interior defender out of 122 qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding Jernigan as the news is available.
