Eagles Place RB Jay Ajayi On IR With Torn ACL, Claim DT T.Y. McGill

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Monday that they’ve placed RB Jay Ajayi on injured reserve with a knee injury and claimed DT T.Y. McGill off of waivers from the Chargers.

This is terrible news for Ajayi, who has dealt with prior knee issues.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see more speculation of the Eagles being a potential trade partner for Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell in the coming weeks.

Ajayi, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract and set to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

The Eagles acquired Ajayi in a trade with the Dolphins that sent a 2018 fourth-round pick to Miami.

Ajayi will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Ajayi has appeared in four games for the Eagles and rushed for 184 yards on 45 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 20 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

McGill, 25, originally signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State back in 2015. He lasted just a few months in Seattle before he was claimed off of waivers by the Colts.

Since then, McGill has had brief stints with the Browns, Chiefs and Chargers.

In 2017, McGill has appeared in three games and recorded one tackle.
