Wheaton was set to earn $5 million in the final year of his agreement for 2018 when the Bears cut him loose during the offseason. He later joined the Eagles on a one-year deal.

In 2017, Wheaton appeared in 11 games for the Bears and caught three passes for 51 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
