Eagles Ready To Clean House After The Season?

Jeff McLane of theย Philadelphia Inquirerย writes that theย Philadelphiaย Eagles will most likely begin the process of cleaning house after the season.

McLane mentions that the Eaglesย are projected to be close to $18 million over the salary cap next season, so it makes sense that they would begin to address some of their high-salaried players.

Nnamdi Asomugha

  • Has aย $15 million base salary for next season, so it seems likely that they’ll approach him about restructuring his current deal.

Jason Babin

  • Figures to be released considering that he’s set to makeย $3.8 million next season and has only producedย 3.5 sacks to this point.

Mike Pattersonย

  • His “days appear numbered” as the Eagles can release him without owing any extra salary.
  • Bell signed aย five year, $35 million deal late into the offseason, but onlyย $3.25 million was guaranteed, so the Eagles can and probably will move on after the season.
  • McLane writes that there’s “no way” the Eagles release him when he’s set to make aย mereย $1.25 million next season. He does however suggest that the Eagles could “trade bait” if they believe that his production hasย plateaued.
  • McLane believes that there are “few scenarios in which Vick returns” next season. We concur given that he has aย $15.5 million base salary for next season.

The Eagles always generate headlines during the offseason, so that trend figures to continue for at least another year.
