According to Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are expected to pick up backup QB Matt Schaub‘s option for 2020.
The option is worth $2 million and should keep Schaub around as the veteran backup to QB Matt Ryan at least to start next season.
Schaub, 38, is a former third-round pick of the Falcons back in 2004. He spent three years in Atlanta before he was traded to the Texans for the 2007 season.
After seven years in Houston, the Texans traded him to the Raiders for a sixth-round pick. From there, Schaub played one season with the Ravens before returning the Falcons for the 2016 season.
Schaub signed a two-year extension to remain in Atlanta before the 2019 season.
In 2019, Schaub appeared in six games for the Falcons and made one start. He completed 50 of 67 pass attempts (74.6 percent) for 580 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
