Report: Falcons Expected To Be Without Steven Jackson Until Week 7

Update:

Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports that Falcons RB Steven Jackson is expected to be out until Week 7.

Jackson is set to miss Sunday’s game against the Patriots, but McClure mentions that he’s likely to miss Week 5’s match up against the Jets as well. Atlanta has their bye the following weeks, it appears as though he won’t see the field until Week 7’s game against the Buccaneers.

Jackson originally suffered a thigh injury, but ultimately sustained a setback in Week 2. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will handle the ground game while Jackson is out.

Falcons HC Mike Smith has already ruled out RB Steven Jackson for Week 3’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

“It’s short term,” said Smith regarding Jackson’s injury. “Don’t know if that’s two or three weeks.”

Ian Rapoport reports that sources have informed him that Falcons RB Steven Jackson could miss 2-4 weeks with a thigh injury.

  • Rapoport adds that Jackson’s injury is viewed as “week-to-week.

Jackson, 30, signed a three-year contract worth $12 million that included $4 million guaranteed with the Falcons this offseason. He’s dealt with some injuries in recent years, but it’s bad time for the Falcons given that they’ve already lost a number of players on the defensive side of the ball.

Jacquizz Rodgers figures to take over as the team’s starting running back with Jackson out, but Jason Snelling will likely be worked into the mix as well.

We’ll have more on Jackson’s status moving forward as soon as the news is available.
