NFC Notes: Chris Godwin, Kyle Pitts, Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers

Buccaneers

Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin hasn’t produced at the expected level through three games after an offseason of full health, even though he’s been targeted fifth-most on the team. Tampa Bay OC Zac Robinson made it clear Godwin will get more opportunities and find a rhythm as the year continues.

“There’s times when, shoot, maybe he is the primary in the route and, again, all 11 [players], for football plays to work and for the execution to be at a high level, all things have to click at the right time,” Robinson said, via the team’s website. “I think that’s been kind of the story with some of those. Could he have had two or three more catches in a game? Probably so when you watch the tape and you take a look at how things are playing out from an all-22 perspective. But CG’s a stud. He’ll continue to do his thing, and if the ball finds him, which it will, naturally. Just with his savvy and all the things that he presents, the ball will find him eventually. We’ve got to get him rolling, for sure.”

Falcons

Panthers

With Panthers CBs Michael Jackson and Jaycee Horn set to miss extended periods, Jackson is excited for Will Lee, Akayleb Evans, Chau Smith-Wade, and Corey Thornton to show what they can do in bigger roles.

“It’s their time to shine, so they just got to go show the world who it is,” Jackson said via the team’s website. “I’m with them every day. I see the hard work they put in. I see how they pay attention and how they take bits and pieces from me and Jaycee’s game, and apply it to their own. So I’m excited for them.”

“You get an opp, I’m telling them to take full advantage of it because, to be honest, this is how this league works. It’s the next man up. AK can go out there, or Will or anybody can go out there and catch two picks. Now it’s like, ‘Oh well, do you ride with him? Well, Mike Jack, come back,’ and that’s what you want.”

Jackson wants them to find their confidence so the secondary will be a force to be reckoned with when he and Horn return.

“I told them, I’m like, you want to play so good to the point where when I come back, now they’re saying we got literally the best DB room in the whole country versus just me and Jaycee.”
