Former Jets C Nick Mangold Undecided About Possible Return For 2018 Season

On Thursday, former Jets C Nick Mangold said he’s still undecided about whether he’ll try to return to the NFL for the 2018 season after sitting out all of last year with a foot injury, per Rich Cimini.

According to Mangold, he is “in football purgatory. I’m not up and I’m not down. I’m somewhere in between, all over the place. My foot is starting to feel better. I’m starting to get back into things. Is this something I still want to do? I don’t know where I am.

Mangold said his foot injury never healed last year, which is why he didn’t sign with a team for the 2017 season.

The Ravens brought Mangold in for a visit last April, but obviously never signed him to a contract.

Mangold, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2006. He was entering the final year of his eight-year, $57.4 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.075 million when the Jets cut him loose last offseason.

In 2016, Mangold appeared in eight games for the Jets and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 25 center out of 38 qualifying players.
