Four Teams Still Interested In Jalen Ramsey

There are four teams still interested in pursuing a trade for Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey, per ESPN’s Chris Mortensen in an ESPN Radio interview.

Mortensen writes the Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens and Chargers are still “highly highly interested” if the Jaguars decide to deal Ramsey. He adds it’s easy to call the Eagles the frontrunners for Ramsey given their injuries in the secondary, while the Ravens and Chiefs are two other “obvious” candidates.

Mortensen also says not to count out the Chargers. Current DC Gus Bradley was the head coach in Jacksonville when they drafted Ramsey.

So far, Jaguars owner Shad Khan has been reluctant to sign off on a deal for Ramsey. Jacksonville reportedly turned down an offer of two first-round picks from a team, which had previously been their asking price for Ramsey.

Mortensen says Khan is willing to pay Ramsey when his contract is up in two years and doesn’t want to set a precedent of players being able to force their way out.

However, he adds Jacksonville’s success with Ramsey out of the lineup the past two weeks could help Khan feel more comfortable moving on.

While there has been some recent buzz about the Jaguars hoping to keep Ramsey and sign him to an extension, there’s a “strong sense” around the NFL an extension is not in the cards and a trade is inevitable. Ramsey has missed the past two games with various ailments since going public with his trade request.

Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He signed a four-year, $23.35 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $3.63 million in 2019.

The Jaguars picked up Ramsey’ fifth-year option that will cost them around $13 million for the 2020 season and will become fully guaranteed on the first day of 2020 league year.

In 2019, Ramsey has appeared in three games for the Jaguars and recorded 18 tackles, a forced fumble and one pass defense.

We’ll have more regarding Ramsey as the news is available.
