DL Chris Canty Has Scheduled Meetings With The Packers & Jaguars

Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that free agent DL Chris Canty has lined up visits with the Packers and the Jaguars following the NFL combine.

Canty can play in both 3-4 and 4-3 defensive schemes , which is most likely why both the Packers and Jaguars have interest in him.ย Canty recently visited the Chiefs and Titans who could also be in play. The fact that he’s available now probably helps hisย marketability.

We have Canty listed as the No. 58 best available player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, the Titans made a contract offer to defensive linemanย Chris Canty, but he left without signing with the team.

Canty is reportedly “continuing to explore his options” and has already visited with the Chiefs, so it’s clear that he has options available to him.

It was reported yesterday that he doesn’t have any other visits currently scheduled, but that obviously could change in the coming days.

Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that former Giants DT Chris Canty has already visited with the Tennessee Titans and is expected to meet with the Chiefs sometime this weeks.

Garafolo adds that other teams could schedule visits with the free agent as well.

Canty, 30, wasย rated as the No. 19 best defensive tackle by Pro Football Focus, mainly due to his ability to play the run. He could draw interest from either 4-3 or 3-4 defensive teams due to the fact that he has experience in both systems.

The Chiefs could cut Tyson Jackson and allow Glenn Dorsey to leave during free agency, which would leave their defensive line in desperate need of help. Canty could be a good move for them.

As for the Titans, they could some additional defensive line depth and Canty would give them a serviceable player in the middle, which would help them get better at defending the run.
