Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports free agent S Marcus Gilchrist is “doing well in rehab” from a patellar tendon tear he suffered last December and expected to be cleared by early August.
Gilchrist, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2011. After four years San Diego, Gilchrist signed a four-year, $22 million contract with $8.5 million guaranteed in March ofย 2015.
Gilchrist was set to make a base salaryย of $6 million for the 2017 season when the Jets elected to designate him as a post-June 1 release a few months ago. This move freedย up $6 of available cap space while creating $1,375,000 in dead money for New York.
In 2016, Gilchrist appeared in 13 games and recorded 55 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and three pass defenses.
