This opens up a three-week window for the two players to practice with the team before New York has to add them to the active roster.
McKinney, 21, was a two-year starter at Alabama and earned second-team All-American honors last season. The Giants selected him with No. 36 overall pick in this year’s draft.
McKinney is projected to sign a four-year, $8,391,049 rookie contract that includes a $3,662,581 signing bonus.
During his three-year career at Alabam, McKinney recorded 175 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, six sacks, five interceptions, 15 pass defenses, one fumble recovery, six forced fumbles, and scored two defensive touchdowns.
Ximines, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Giants back in 2019. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $3,356,784 rookie contract including an $836,784 signing bonus.
In 2020, Ximines has appeared in four games for the Giants and recorded five tackles and no sacks.
