Giants Open To Bringing Eli Manning Back For 2020 Season?

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, key people in the Giants organization don’t think QB Eli Manning is done and the teams feels like they saw a “ton of positive signs” in the second half last year.

Vacchiano says that the Giants would ideally find Manning’s successor and have him ready to go for the 2020 season. However, if they don’t and Manning doesn’t have disastrous 2019 season, Vacchiano mentions that the Giants “won’t hesitate to extend Manning’s contract by a year.

They really do want him around to rub off on the next Giants franchise quarterback, if they can make it work.

New York paid Manning a $5 million roster bonus this offseason and have made it clear that he’ll be back for the 2019 season.

It will be interesting to see what they elect to do at quarterback, as they could pursue a trade for Cardinals QB Josh Rosen or use either their No. 6 or No. 17 overall pick on a prospect to develop.

Manning, 38, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2004. He was traded to the Giants during the draft and has spent all 14 years of his career in New York.

Manning is entering the final year of his five-year, $101.5 million contract that included $65 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $11.5 million for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Manning appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,299 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
