NFC Notes: Abdul Carter, Dak Prescott, Commanders, Cowboys, Giants

Commanders

Commanders OT Brandon Coleman is entering the third year of his career after being a third-round pick in 2023 and is set to be the team’s new left tackle. Washington OC David Blough said Coleman has “demonstrated everything” they need for him to be their left tackle.

“His speed, athleticism just flashes every time you turn that film on,” Blough said, via John Keim of ESPN. “We’ve seen a young man grow from having to [make] all those starts as a rookie and the different experiences last year. … He has demonstrated everything that we’re looking for to protect that side.”

Coleman missed time during his rookie season and in 2025. The lineman said he suffered injuries during training camp in previous years that could’ve been prevented with extra effort during rehab.

“There’s injuries that I’ve had in the past during training camp that fully could have been prevented if I would’ve just sacrificed a little more time in rehab and working on certain things,” Coleman said.

Commanders HC Dan Quinn has been impressed by Coleman’s resilience and the response he showed after switching positions.

“He was off to a very good start at left guard,” Quinn said. “To switch him outside, when you go through things you want to come out the other side stronger, harder, learn the lessons. Brandon and a couple guys are in that space, just maybe the resilience you have to show. Going through it sucks, but there is a [new] guy on the other side.”

Cowboys

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is entering the 11th year of his career. Dallas owner Jerry Jones expressed confidence in Prescott and feels he’s still “very capable” of leading them to a Super Bowl.

“I think since Dak has been our quarterback, we’ve won either the sixth or seventh most games in the NFL since he’s been the quarterback,” Jones said, via Tommy Yarish of the team’s site. “So the bottom line is that we’ve won games; we just need to win the right games. I know this, I think he’s very capable of taking us all the way.”

Prescott’s mindset continues to be “Super Bowl or bust.”

“That’s the one thing I love about the Cowboys nation and being a player of the Cowboys is, it’s Super Bowl or bust,” Prescott said. “And truthfully, that’s the only reason you play this game. And so if that’s not your mindset, if that’s not your mindset as a fan, then to me, you don’t have the right passion. You’re not a true winner. So absolutely, we’re working every day for it.”

Giants

Giants HC John Harbaugh was asked about his thoughts on pass rusher Abdul Carter, admitting that he didn’t spend much time scouting him during his time with the Ravens because the team had no shot of drafting him.

“I didn’t know him as well because, honestly, in the draft, it wasn’t a guy we were really looking at because we weren’t going to have a chance to draft him,” Harbaugh said of Carter, via NFL.com. “And so, I didn’t know him at all. Then, I started talking to him and liked him right away and the things he had said that he wanted to do.”

“I would say this, I’d say everything he’s spoken of in terms of what he wants to accomplish and his plans to do so, he’s following through on,” Harbaugh added. “I think he’s been a real leader and mostly by example, by the way he’s playing and the energy he’s giving,” said Harbaugh, who coached Terrell Suggs on the Ravens in 2011 when Suggs garnered DPOTY. “So, it looks good, you’re right. I mean, he’s had a really, really great camp so far.”
