Dianna Russini of ESPN reports that Giants rookie CB Sam Beal, who was recently selected in the third round of this year’s Supplement Draft, is out for the season with a shoulder injury.

  • Albert Breer adds that Beal got tangled with a teammate during yesterday’s practice and his shoulder popped out.
  • Dan Duggan reports that Beal aggravated a pre-existing shoulder issue in Monday’s practice and the plan as of now is for him to either attempt to play through it or undergo surgery. However, surgery appears to be more likely at this point in time.

This is surprising news, seeing as he’s only been with the team for a few weeks.

You can expect the Giants to place him on the injured reserve list at some point.

Beal was considered by many draft evaluators to be the best Supplemental prospect since Josh Gordon was taken by the Browns back in 2012.

Beal, 21, was selected in the third round of this year’s Supplemental draft, which means they will lose their 2019 third-round pick. He signed a four-year, $4.08 million contract that included a $1,048,940 signing bonus.

Beal recorded 92 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two interceptions, 19 pass defenses and a forced fumble over the course of three seasons at Western Michigan and 32 games played.
