Following the news that the Jaguars have fired OC Greg Olson and promoted QB s coach Nathanial Hackett, Jason La Canfora points out that this actually sets up Doug Marrone to take over as interim head coach in the event Jacksonville fires HC Gus Bradley.
La Canfora adds that by having Hackett take over the team’s offense ensures that no more changes would need to be made to the offensive unit, even if the part ways with Bradley.
On Friday,ย Jaguars owner Shad Khan told reporters that he won’t be making a coach, even though the team continues to struggle across the board.
“Actions speak louder than words,” Khan said when asked to comment on the game, via the Florida Times-Union. “Very little for me to say.”
Jaguars HC Gus Bradley was asked last night if he’s worried about his status with the team.
“No,” Bradley said while adding that he expects to be the coach for their Week 9 game against the Chiefs. “I worry about this team and why did we perform like that in the first half, and figuring out, OK, how can we get it right?”
Earlier in the week,ย Jason Cole of B/R reported that two Jaguars’ players “strongly questioned” Bradley’s approach following the team’s disappointing loss to the Raiders on Sunday.
Although, players have told Cole that Bradley is still popular in the locker room but the issue for him could be that he may not have the ability to be tough enough to get team and QB Blake Bortles turned around this season.
Jacksonville has been very patient with their rebuild and the team’s coaching staff since they brought Bradley in a few years ago. However, the results just haven’t been there while expectations for the team were to at least be contention for a playoff spot.
The Jaguars are currently 2-5 and have taken some steps back in a number of areas, which leaves Bradley’s future with the team uncertain.
Since being hired as the Jaguars’ head coach back in 2013, Bradley has led to team to a record of 14-41 (25.45 percent), which has been good enough forย third in the division each year and is currently worst in the AFC South.
We’ll have more regarding Bradley and the Jaguars as the news is available.
