Update:
Even though Jaguars GM David Caldwell told reporters that suspended WR Justin Blackmonโs NFL career is likely over, Michael DiRocco mentions that Jacksonville still has no plans to release the former first-round pick.
As DiRocco points out, Blackmon doesnโt count against their 90-man roster and doesnโt count agaisnt their salary cap. Beyond that, the Jaguars donโt even have to pay his salary.
Should he return to the team, Blackmon would owe Jacksonville two and half years of service.

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said he doubts suspended WR Justin Blackmon ever plays in the NFL again.
โCommon sense would probably be if you havenโt played football in two and half years, apparently thatโs not a priority for you,โ Caldwell said, per Mark Long. โRealistically I think when youโre away from the game (this long), what you were once is not what you probably will be. Your skills do erode, especially if youโre not staying in tip-top shape and youโre not in football shape.โ
Blackmon was arrested for third time last year after he was stopped for a traffic violation when officers smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the car. After searching the vehicle, the police did in fact find marijuana, which led to him being taken into custody.
His most recent arrest, which led to an indefinite suspension, was for possession of marijuana.
Blackmon, 25, still has one year remaining on his four-year, $18.5 million rookie contract. He would make a base salary of $2,914,365 for the 2015 season if he were to be instated and the Jaguars elected to keep him on their roster.
In 2013, he appeared in only four games, registering 29 catches for 415 yards and a touchdown.
