Update:
Even though Jaguars GM David Caldwell told reporters that suspended WR Justin Blackmon‘s NFL career is likely over, Michael DiRocco mentions that Jacksonville still has no plans to release the former first-round pick.
As DiRocco points out, Blackmon doesn’t count against their 90-man roster and doesn’t count agaisnt their salary cap. Beyond that, the Jaguars don’t even have to pay his salary.
Should he return to the team, Blackmon would owe Jacksonville two and half years of service.

Jaguars GMย Dave Caldwell said he doubts suspended WR Justin Blackmon ever plays in the NFL again.
โCommon sense would probably be if you havenโt played football in two and halfย years, apparently thatโs not a priority for you,โ Caldwell said, per Mark Long.ย “Realistically I think when youโre away from the game (this long), what you were once is not what you probably will be.ย Your skills do erode, especially if youโre not staying in tip-top shape and youโre not in football shape.โ
Blackmon was arrested for third time last year after heย was stopped for a traffic violation when officers smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the car. After searching the vehicle, theย police did in fact findย marijuana, which led to himย beingย taken into custody.
Hisย most recent arrest, which led to anย indefinite suspension, was forย possession of marijuana.
Blackmon, 25, still has oneย year remaining on hisย four-year, $18.5 million rookie contract. He would make a base salary ofย $2,914,365 for the 2015 season if he were to be instated and the Jaguars elected to keep him on their roster.
In 2013, heย appeared in only four games, registering 29 catches for 415 yardsย and aย touchdown.
