Aaron Wison reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars are interviewing former Lions special teams coordinator Brayden Coombs on Tuesday for their special teams coordinator job.
Wilson notes that Coombs is the son of Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs, who has obvious ties to Urban Meyer.
This comes just a few days after Jaguars special teams coordinator Brian Schneider decided to take time away from coaching for personal reasons.
Coombs, 34 was hired by the Bengals back in 2009 as a coaching intern before being promoted to coaching assistant the following year. He contributed to the Bengals’ defensive staff and focused on defensive backs before moving to the offensive side of the ball in 2012 and focusing on wide receivers.
From there, the Bengals made Coombs assistant special teams coach in 2013 and he later assisting the coaching of cornerbacks in 2016. He was hired by the Lions as a special teams coordinator in 2020, but was fired during the season.
