Jaguars Waive QB Cody Kessler

Adam Schefter reports that the Jaguars are waiving QB Cody Kessler on Thursday.

Kessler really struggled last year after taking over for Blake Bortles midseason and it appears as though they felt it was best to cut him loose now and give him a chance to catch on with another team.

The Jaguars will move forward with Nick Foles, Tanner Lee, rookie Gardner Minshew and Alex McGough as their quarterbacks this summer.

Kessler, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2016. The Browns traded Kessler to the Jaguars last year for a 2019 seventh-round pick.

Kessler is in the final year of his four-year, $3.3 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $912,147 for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Kessler appeared in five games for the Jaguars and completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 709 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 123.
