Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, citing several sources familiar with the Jets’ thinking, reports that GM Mike Maccagnan is not on the hot seat, unlike HC Todd Bowles.
Vacchiano says that Bowles appears to be “on the fast track to being fired after the season while Maccagnan’s job doesn’t appear to be in danger at all.”
According to Vacchiano, the reason for Maccagnan’s job not being in jeopardy is that he’s tasked with building long-term and the moves he’s made up to this point have been to get the team in position to make the playoffs in 2019.
The Jets are in position to have $100 million of cap space to work with next offseason and it appears as though ownership plans to give him an opportunity to use it to fill out their roster.
During his four years as Jets’ head coach, Maccagnan’s teams have produced a record of 23-35 (39.7 percent) and no playoff appearances.
We’ll have more regarding the Jets and Maccagnan as the news is available.
