Jets Release CB Darryl Roberts

The New York Jets announced Saturday that they’ve released veteran CB Darryl Roberts

Reports had said that Roberts was likely to be released one the team signed a defensive back. Turns out the Jets just agree to sign DB Marqui Christian to a contract today.

Roberts, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Patriots in 2015.  He was waived with an injury designation in 2016 and claimed off waivers by the Jets.

Roberts signed a three-year, $18 million extension with the Jets last year and was set to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2020 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Roberts will free up $6 million of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2019, Roberts appeared in 13 games for the Jets and recorded 63 tackles, one interception and six passes defended.
