Jets Waive DE/OLB Quanterus Smith From PS, Sign DB Kevin Short

The New York Jets waived DE/OLB Quanterus Smith from their practice squad on Thursday and signed DB Kevin Short to replace him.

The Jets’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. DB Kevin Short
  2. WR Titus Davis
  3. NT T.J. Barnes
  4. OL Lawrence Okoye
  5. G Jarvis Harrison
  6. TE Wes Saxton
  7. NT Deon Simon
  8. DE Mike Catapano
  9. LB Deion Barnes
  10. LB Taiwan Jones

Smith, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Broncos back in 2013 out of Western Kentucky. He was unfortunately cut loose by the Broncos with a failed physical designation days before this year’s NFL Draft.

The Jets signed him to their practice squad a few weeks ago.

In 2014, Smith appeared in 15 games for the Broncos, but recorded just 11 tackles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 51 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.
