Former Jets WR Stephen Hill Goes Unclaimed On Waivers

Update:

Manish Mehta reports that former Jets WR Stephen Hill went unclaimed off waivers and is now a free agent.

  • Mehta adds that Hill is still practice squad eligible.

The Jets have yet to announce their practice squad signing, but it’s hard to say if they would be willing to keep him on their practice unit.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets plan to waive WR Stephen Hill, but could still try to trade him before the deadline to cut rosters to 53 players.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports that the Jets are in fact waiving former second-round pick WR Stephen Hill.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier in the week that the Jets made an attempt to trade Hill this summer, but couldn’t find any interest.

Other had mentioned that Hill was firmly on the roster bubble, so this isn’t a huge surprise, despite his draft status.

Hill still has two years remaining on his contract with reasonable base salaries of $718,394 and $932,590 coming his way during this time. It will be interesting to see if anyone places a claim on him in the coming days.

Last year, Hill appeared in 12 games and caught 24 passes for 342 yards receiving and a touchdown.
