Denver Broncos VP of Operations John Elway said in a press conference Monday he feels “optimistic” that the Broncos and left tackle Ryan Clady will be able to reach a new long-term deal this season.
Clady, 26, is thought to be one of the best young left tackles in the game. He was franchise tagged by the Broncos in early March but has yet to sign his one-year, $9.83 million franchise tender.
“I eventually think we’re going to be in good shape with Ryan,” said Elway, adding in getting him signed for the future is not an immediate concern right now.
Clady is recovering from an offseason shoulder surgery, which could be one of the reasons why Denver elected to tag Clady and not sign him long-term already. Should they elect to do so next year, the Broncos could once again tag Clady – but for $11.79 million.
