Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that veteran QB Josh McCown is expected to continue his NFL career in 2018, even though heย recently told reporters that he was unsure about his football future.
McCown plans to makeย a final decision after meeting with his family butย La Canfora would be “very surprised” if he doesn’t return next year.
According toย La Canfora, McCown will be in demand, as there could end up beingย numerousย viable options for him and teams view him as the perfect bridge quarterback capable of helping to develop a rookie quarterback.
Multiple GMs have told La Canfora that McCown could command as much asย $10 million or more next year.
McCown’s 2017 season ended after he suffered a season-ending hand fracture that led to him being placed on injured reserve.
McCown, 38, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2002. He played for several teams including the Lions, Raiders, Dolphins, Panthers, 49ers, Bears, Buccaneers and Browns before signing a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2017, McCown appeared in 12 games for the Jets and thrown for 2,880 yards while completing 67.8 percent of his passes to go along with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
