Adam Schefter reports that veteran QB Josh McCown is unretiring from the NFL and plans to sign a one-year contract with the Eagles.
- Ian Rapoport adds that McCown receives a $2 million base salary that’s fully guaranteed as part of this deal.
- Per Tom Pelissero, the contract can be worth up to $5.4 million.
- According to Schefter, McCown plans to resume his broadcasting career with ESPN after season.
The Eagles are dealing with some injuries at quarterback, but it appears as though they still weren’t content with their backup options and felt they needed to add an experienced backup.
Schefter says the Eagles still expect Nate Sudfeld to return from injury this season and they value him, despite this move.
McCown, 39, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2002. He played for several teams including the Lions, Raiders, Dolphins, Panthers, 49ers, Bears, Buccaneers and Browns before signing a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in 2017.
The Jets brought McCown back last year on a one-year contract worth $10 million.
During his career, McCown has spent time with 10 different NFL teams. He has totaled 17,703 yards passing, 98 touchdowns and 82 interceptions. He also ran for 1107 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career.
