Kevin Smith Discussing A Contract With The Lions?

Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports that the Lions are currently in contract discussions with RB Kevin Smith.

Last year, Smith stepped in for Jahvid Best after he was lost for the season following a severe concussion. Rookie RB Mikel Leshoure  wound up tearing his Achilles tendon in his left foot during the preseason so the Lions were desperate to find someone that could help their decimated backfield.

Smith, 25, was drafted by the Lions in 2008 but injuries have also impacted his NFL career. Detroit has shown interest in re-signing him in recent weeks so I’d expect to see something worked out in the near future.

We have Smith listed as the #50 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
