Larry Fitzgerald Will Only Play For Cardinals If He Continues NFL Career

Cardinals’ veteran WR Larry Fitzgerald said on Wednesday that he will only play for Arizona if he decides to continue his NFL career.

โ€œThereโ€™s no chance,โ€ Fitzgerald said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, via Alex Marvez. โ€œThis will be it.ย If itโ€™s not with the Cardinals, weโ€™ve seen the last of Larry Fitzgerald in the National Football League wearing No. 11.โ€

He also told reporters back in Decemberย that he has still yet to make any decision regarding his future. (NFLTR)

โ€œIโ€™m going to take some time,โ€ Fitzgerald said. โ€œFigure it out. Iโ€™ll let you know, though.โ€

Fitzgerald did, however, reflect a bit on his 14-year NFL career.

โ€œItโ€™s been a good ride,โ€ Fitzgerald said. โ€œIโ€™ve met a lot of great people and made a lot of wonderful memories. I wish we wouldโ€™ve had some more wins. That first game at Sun Devil wasnโ€™t fun. I think it was against the Patriots. I remember (linebacker) Willie McGinest knocking me down on a crossing route and (safety) Rodney Harrison chasing me around, trying to hurt me. That wasnโ€™t a good day.โ€

Fitzgerald possibly retiring has been a topic the past few years and while he did sign a one-year, $11 million extension with the Cardinals back in November (NFLTR), it’s still something worth monitoring in the coming months.

Fitzgerald, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2004. He agreed toย renegotiate his seven-year $113 million contract and signed aย two-year, $22 million deal with Arizona that was fully guaranteed included a no-trade clause back in 2015.

Arizona later gave him another one-year, $11 million extension before lastย season that kept him under contract through 2017. Fitzgerald is in line to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2017, Fitzgerald has appeared in 14 games and caught 92 receptions for 982 yards receiving and five touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.
