While the Dolphins spoke with the Cowboys about DB Minkah Fitzpatrick early on, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Dallas has dropped out of the running for Fitzpatrick and would “have to do much work to make up the ground theyโve lost” to three other teams.
According to Salguero, the Dolphins are “certain” they’re going to get a first-round pick in return for the former first-round pick and they’re also confident they might be able to get an extra piece of compensation included in the trade.
Salguero suggests this could end up being a player or possibly a lower-round draft pick.
- Adam Schefter reported that at least five teams have expressed interest in Fitzpatrick, but other teams don’t believe the Dolphins will be able to recoup a first-round pick and something else for the former first-round pick.
- Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that the Dolphins are “likely” to trade Fitzpatrick, perhaps as soon as this week. Several NFL executives have told La Canfora that they would not be surprised a trade was completed before Week 3 and roughly 20 teams have reached out to his agent, Joel Segal and/or the Dolphins about Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick has been unhappy with his current situation for some time and recently received permission from the Dolphins to seek out a trade with another team.
Fitzpatrick, 22, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2018. He’s currently int he second year of his four-year, $16,509,174 contract that included a $10,086,672 signing bonus.
Fitzpatrick is owed base salaries of $1,227,626 and $1,975,252. His contract includes a fifth-year option to be picked up for the 2022 season.
Entering today’s game, Fitzpatrick had appeared in one game for the Dolphins and recorded six tackles and no interceptions.
Weโll have more regarding Fitzpatrick as the news is available.
