Lions DT Damon Harrison was reportedly in tears following Sunday’s game and talking about the possibility of retiring this offseason, per Kyle Meinke.
Harrison told reporters that his mind still thinks he can play, but his body is saying otherwise. He plans to take some time mull over his future in the coming months.
“I got to talk it over with my family, try to seek some different options. But if I do walk away, Iโm not ashamed, I donโt feel bad. Because I gave it everything I had, even when it wasnโt good enough,” Harrison said, per Meinke.
“Iโve given everything I have to every team Iโve played for. I donโt feel bad if (retirement is) the decision,” Harrison added, per Meinke. “I got a lot of thinking to do this offseason, Iโm going to seek some different options. … But if I canโt be that guy I want to be, then I got to hang it up.”
Harrison, 31, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of William Penn back in 2012. He spent four years with the Jets before departing in free agency for a five-year, $46.25 million contract with the Giants.
The Giants later traded Harrison to the Lions. He was entering the fourth year of his five-year, $46.25 million deal when he agreed to a one-year, $11 million extension this past August.
In 2019, Harrison appeared in 15 games for the Lions and recorded 48 tackles, two sacks and three pass defenses.
