The Detroit Lions will be trying out defensive backs Tramaine Brock and Josh Hawkins this week, according to Aaron Wilson. The team will also be hosting former Panthers’ RB Jordan Scarlett for a visit.
Brock, 32, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Belhaven College back in 2010. He was in the final year of his five-year, $17.323 million contract and set to make a base salary of $3.1 million for the 2017 season when the 49ers cut him loose.
The Seahawks signed Brock to a one-year deal in 2017 before trading him to the Vikings for a seventh-round pick. Brock signed with the Broncos for the 2018 season and signed with the Cardinals on a one-year deal but the team later opted to waive him.
Brock was claimed by the Titans before once again being waived. He signed on with the Jaguars and continued to fight for a backup spot with Jacksonville’s defense before being placed on injured reserve back in September.
In 2019, Brock appeared in 14 games for the Cardinals and Titans and recorded 50 tackles, no interceptions, and five passes defended.

Hawkins, 27, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of East Carolina back in 2016. He managed to make the 53-man roster in each of his first two seasons in Green Bay but was among their final roster cuts coming out of the 2018 preseason.
After a brief stint with the Panthers, Hawkins signed on to the Chiefs’ taxi squad and bounced on and off the unit before catching on with the Eagles. Philadelphia waived Hawkins coming out of the preseason in 2019.
Hawkins agreed to a contract with the Falcons back in April and was waived and added to the practice squad the following day. He had yet another stint with the Panthers practice squad but was once again released.
Hawkins appeared in the XFL with the Dallas Renegades, recording 11 tackles, four pass defenses, and two interceptions in five games.
In 2018, Hawkins appeared in five games for the Panthers and one game with the Eagles but did not record a statistic.
Scarlett, 25, was selected by the Panthers in the fifth round out of Florida in 2019. He was entering the second year of a four-year, $2.8M contract when the team opted to waive him.
In 2019, Scarlett appeared in nine games for the Panthers and rushed for nine yards on four carries (2.3 YPC) and no touchdowns.
