Dave Birkett reports that the Lions are keeping Kasey Redfern as their punter, which means Sam Martin is expected to start the season on the non-football injury list.
Martin, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.320 million contract when he signed a four-year, $13.6 million extension with the Lions last year, making him one of the highest paid punters in the NFL.
Martin stands to make base salaries of $2.25 million and $2.32 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2016, Martin totaled 2,800 punt yards on 62 attempts (45.16 per) to go along with 55 touchbacks.
