Lions Waive WR Tom Kennedy, Promote DT John Atkins

The Detroit Lions announced Monday that they’ve promoted DT John Atkins to their active roster and waived WR Tom Kennedy.

The Lions are dealing with a number of injuries to defensive linemen including Da’Shawn Hand, Mike Daniels, and A’Shawn Robinson so it makes sense to add some depth before Monday’s game against the Lions.

Kennedy, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Bryant back in April. He later signed a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Lions, but was waived coming out of the preseason.

The Lions re-signed Kennedy to their practice squad soon after before promoting to their active roster a few weeks ago.

During his college career at Bryant, Kennedy caught 90 passes for 1,298 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 94 yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns over the course of 18 games.
