NFC Notes: Bears, Packers, Saints

Bears

Bears QB Mitch Tribusky explained that Matt Nagyโ€™s offensive scheme is โ€œmore complex, but easierโ€ to execute than the system the team ran last year.

โ€œItโ€™s more complex, but itโ€™s easier [to execute], as opposed to simpler but more difficult,โ€ Trubisky said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. โ€œThatโ€™s how I would describe it last year. Last year, there were probably less words, but they didnโ€™t necessarily fit together. Or it was just more difficult to process. This year, itโ€™s more complex but itโ€™s easier to execute and memorize and remember because everything builds on something. You start with a base concept, and it gets more and more complicated.โ€

Packers

Packers WR Randall Cobb confirmed he will take part in training camp, despite sporting a walking boot this summer. Cobb added that he is not sure if there will be any restrictions until he speaks to the teamโ€™s training staff. (Chris Barriere)

  • Stu Courtney of USA Today writes that there will be an โ€œintenseโ€ battle for the Packersโ€™ lead running back role in training camp.
  • Courtney considers that RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are โ€œroster locksโ€ with Ty Montgomery and FB Aaron Ripkowski being โ€œgood betsโ€ to make the 53-man roster.
  • Courtney thinks Jones could take over as the teamโ€™s starting running back at some point this year once heโ€™s done serving his suspension. Courtney adds that Aaron Rodgers has supported Jones, saying: โ€œAbsolutely zero worries about him back there.โ€
  • As for players who figure to be on the roster bubble this summer, Courtney lists RB Devante Mays and FB Joe Kerridge with FB Joel Bouragnon being a โ€œlong shot.โ€

Saints

New Saints WR Cameron Meredith, who is still recovering from an ACL and partial MCL tear, says his knee is almost close to 100 percent health.

โ€œOn a scale of 1 to 10, itโ€™s almost a 10โ€ฆI havenโ€™t had a setback along the recovery process,โ€ Meredith said, via NewOrleansSaints.com. โ€œIโ€™m gaining strength day by day, month by month. Iโ€™m excited to see how soon I can get backโ€ฆBut the main objective for me is to do as much as I can with the trainers to get ready for the season. My goal is to try and get back to training camp. As long as there arenโ€™t any setbacks or anything like that, it shouldnโ€™t be a problem.โ€
