NFC Notes: Cowboys, Falcons, Giants

Cowboys

Cowboys TE Jason Witten has no regrets so far about his decision to come out of retirement.

“There’s been nothing like it,” Witten said via NFL Media’s Grant Gordon. “I feel like a little kid when my car pulls in. I’m looking forward to the next six, seven months.”

Witten said the year away in the booth made him realize he still had something left in the tank.

“I said it when I retired a year ago: I don’t know that anybody really knows when it’s their time to go. And I was no different,” Witten said. “Look, I had a great experience in the booth. I saw a different perspective. I saw the league from a different point of view in getting the opportunity to go see 31 other teams and how they build their team and go about it.  But at the same time, I saw the Cowboys team start to come together and a lot of stars and young stars that love the game, and when Jerry [Jones] presented me that opportunity to come back, I was just extremely excited. I think more than anything else, it was just something that was tugging on me inside to say that maybe there’s something still inside left to go out there and go after that championship.”

Falcons

Falcons S Keanu Neal said his recovery from a torn ACL is “going well” but he didn’t want to commit to being ready for training camp

The recovery from the ACL is going well. Tough to miss time on the field. From a rehab standpoint, a long day, a long process,” Neal said, per Zig Fracassi.

Giants

A Giants’ source tells Ralph Vacchiano that he isn’t sure they can pass on an edge rusher at No. 6 overall.

“There are a ton of great defensive players in this draft,” Vacchiano’s source said. “As much as we need a young quarterback, I honestly don’t know how we can pass on one of the pass rushers at 6.”

  • According to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com, the buzz at the owners meeting last week was that the Giants could be more interested in drafting Duke QB Daniel Jones at No. 17 overall than using their No. 6 pick on Ohio Stateโ€™s Dwayne Haskins.
  • The Giants believe their offense can be better next season by not having to force the ball to one wide receiver.  (Ralph Vacchiano)
  • Defense is still a concern for the Giants, which is why they’re believed to be leaning toward taking a pass rusher at No. 6 overall.
