NFC Notes: Danielle Hunter, Jordan Love, Montez Sweat, Bears, Packers, Vikings

Bears

Bears LB Montez Sweat felt liberated after receiving a four-year, $98 million contract extension just days after being traded to Chicago, and further proved himself by posting six sacks in nine games with the team.

โ€œYeah, just like any athlete who wants to get paid and get that money secured, it was a big relief,โ€ Sweat said, via NFL.com. โ€œI think it allowed me to play more free and more loose.โ€

Packers

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst expects the team to sign QB Jordan Love to a long-term extension this offseason.

โ€œI think we will go down that road,โ€ Gutekunst said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. โ€œCertainly, I think thatโ€™ll be important for our football team to have some stability there. Jordan and his representation, theyโ€™re really good people, so we will start working towards that sometime in the next couple of months.โ€

Gutekunst said Love is the quarterback of the future in Green Bay.

โ€œJordan had a really good season toward the end, especially the second half and we are really excited to build around him,โ€ Gutekunst said. โ€œI think just the way he led our football team through the tough times, through the success, all the challenges that a season kind of brings you, he did a really good job leading those guys. I think for a young player in his first year thatโ€™s trying to figure it all out, I think that was exceptional.โ€

Vikings

Vikings DE Danielle Hunter had a career-high 16.5 sacks in 2023 and isn’t sure where he will end up next season as an impending free agent.

โ€œStaying in shape, doing my part, and then when the time comes, my agent or the Vikings, theyโ€™ll come to a decision,โ€ Hunter said, via NFL.com. โ€œWeโ€™ll see whatโ€™s best when the time comes.โ€
